And on the 7th day, God rested.

God, the creator of the universe rested.

That statement literally blows my mind.

Genesis 2:2 And on the seventh day, God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all the work that he had done.

Growing up in the DC Metro area, there was no such thing as rest. The more multitasking, the better. Everything was “Get it done!”, the faster the better, no rest for the weary. The only thing that wasn’t fast-paced was the traffic.

I remember spending my weekends as a teacher going to cheer on my students at their sporting events, sometimes attending several different games/matches/competitions/championships in one day. I think my record was 16 students in a Saturday. I used to pride myself in how many parties I could attend in an evening. Going to ALL the things! Because if someone invited me, surely I should at least make an appearance!

It hasn’t been until much more recently that I have learned this is not a healthy way to live.

Because you can’t pour from an empty cup.

Back on the World Race, this time as a Gap Year squad leader, I’m relearning what this looks like.

When I’m not discipling the ladies on my team, reading C&Cs, responding to leadership texts, working logistics, reading blogs, connecting with ministry hosts, planning for team time, reading for Bible Study, typing blogs, reaching out to supporters… what does it look like to truly rest?

Well I’m so glad you asked because today, I rested! Here’s a glimpse into my “rest day.”

Rest looks different on the Race, but surprisingly the same. Finding the time to do the things that fill me up. Finding spare moments to get with the Father and ask what He has for me each and every day.

What does rest look like in your life?
