Why is it that the distance back from a location seems ten times longer than when you go somewhere for the first time?

I’ll be honest, driving is not one of my favorite pastimes. And the other day I found myself on a road trip from Florida back to my current home of Gainesville, Georgia. The journey had been going on for almost eight hours.  And although I was only 30 minutes from destination, my bum was asleep and I needed to use the ladies room.

I pulled off at my favorite exit and headed into TJMaxx and Ross. I enjoy looking through their notecards and home goods sections.

Taking any excuse to stretch my legs and regain feeling in my rear I wandered around the store and found myself in the shoe aisle.

Was I in the market for new shoes? Absolutely not. I have plenty. But there was a cute pair of camel colored wedge sandals perfect for the upcoming spring season.

Making my way to the cashier, I asked the young woman behind the counter how her work day was going. She shared about an awful tooth ache she’d been experiencing shooting pains in the side of her mouth. I asked if I could pray with her and she obliged. Right then and there we held hands and I prayed for Jesus to bring healing to her mouth.

We opened our eyes and she wrung up my sandals.

“That’ll be $24.99.”

“How does your mouth feel now?” I asked.

She smiled “Well, there used to be shooting pain, but now it’s just a dull ache.”

I prayed again and told her I’d keep praying that the pain would be completely healed.

As she placed my new adorable sandals in a bag and handed me the receipt she thanked me and said she hoped I enjoyed them.

Something tells me there was more to this little pit stop then some new fancy footwear.

“It wasn’t about the shoes.”
